The Chantilly was bred with a pair of chocolate brown cats. The origin and breed of these cats are unknown, which makes them somewhat of a mystery. The first litter to be bred was in 1969 within the big apple that is New York.

Additional breeding programs would begin in Florida and Canada, where they were registered as a foreign longhair and later given the name Tiffany.

According to a British registry, this caused confusion as there was a crossbreed of a Burmese and Chinchilla Persian known as a Tiffanie. With that in mind, it got the Chantilly added on to make it the Chantilly Tiffany name we know today.
