How Much Should I Feed My Labradoodle Each Day?

Puppies

  • 2 – 4 months: 4 meals a day
  • 4 – 6 months: 3 meals a day
  • 6 – 8 months: 2 – 3 meals a day
  • Over 8 months: 2 meals a day

The amount of food your puppy will need can be calculated according to its body weight.

Adults

Adult Labradoodles need around 1 to 2.5 cups of high-quality dry food daily, divided into two separate meals to avoid any possible bloating.

Seniors

Like adult dogs, senior Labradoodles also need two meals a day, but their diet will need to include more foods that support joint and heart health.

Pregnant

You must increase your pregnant Labradoodle’s food intake by around 15 to 20% daily.

Raw, Fresh, or Commercial Food: Which is Best for My Dog’s Diet?

There isn’t a straight answer regarding the best diet for Labradoodles, as every dog is unique.

Whether you choose raw food diets, dry food, canned food, or a homemade diet, aim to provide your Doodle with high-quality dog food that consists of:

  • 18% protein
  • 5% fat
  • Complex carbs
  • Fibre
  • Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants
  • Omega-3s and 6s

FAQs

Can I give my Labradoodle treats?

Of course, treats can be very effective when training Labradoodle puppies.

However, treats shouldn’t make up more than 10% of your dog’s daily calories to maintain a healthy body weight.

For instance, if your dog’s diet is 500 calories a day, their treats shouldn’t exceed 50 calories.

What should Labradoodles not eat?

While your furry friend will be more than willing to share every meal with you, you should know that many foods are dangerous for your pup.

Avoid feeding your Labradoodle:

  • Alcohol
  • Avocado
  • Caffeine (Coffee, Tea)
  • Chocolate
  • Fat Trimmings and Cooked Bones
  • Grapes and Raisins
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Milk and Dairy Products
  • Onions and Garlic
  • Raw Eggs
  • Xylitol

Are Labradoodles fussy eaters?

Like most dogs, Labradoodles don’t usually display fussy eating behaviour. In fact, they’re generally willing to eat anything that is in front of them, including inedible items like socks!

If you suspect your dog isn’t eating normally, the cause is likely beyond fussiness – so it’s best to see your veterinarian.

How much water do Labradoodles need?

Dogs need around 50 millilitres of water per kilogram of body weight per day.

For example, a 30-kilogram Labradoodle would drink about 1.5 litres of water daily.

Remember that every dog is different, and several factors can affect their regular water intake, such as their diet, the weather, activity levels, and medications.

Final Thoughts on feeding a Labradoodle

Whether you choose dry or wet food, commercial dog foods or a raw diet (raw meat) – you need to ensure your Labradoodle is getting the nutrients and calories he requires for healthy growth, energy and overall maintenance.

Always choose high-quality dog food, and steer clear of artificial ingredients, preservatives, and high grain levels in commercial foods.
