How Big Is a Groodle Dog?

Groodles are now so popular that they come in three different sizes – Miniature, Medium, and Standard. Below we’ve explained how big you can expect each Groodle size to be.

Miniature

The Miniature Groodle typically will have a weight from 6 – 13 kg and can reach a height of around 33 – 48 cm. This makes them ideal for those living in small living spaces.

Medium

Medium Groodles usually measure 50 cm tall and weigh between 11 – 20kg. This is the most popular size, and you can find many breeders who have them. This size is ideal for those living in a space bigger than an apartment but not a big enough space to house a Standard Groodle.

Standard

The Standard Groodle is a large-size dog breed that weighs between 20 – 45 kg and reaches a height of between 51 – 61 cm. Standard Groodles also have a lot of energy, so be prepared to live an active lifestyle if you choose this dog!

At What Age Does a Groodle Reach Its Full Size?

A Groodle puppy goes through normal puppyhood, consisting of different developmental stages. These stages make up the first and second years of the puppy’s life.

As it goes from a newborn to an adult dog, this pup will gain weight and height at the same rate as other dog breeds of a similar size. By the time a Mini Groodle is six months old, it will usually have reached around 75 per cent of its adult size.

A Medium Groodle will probably take a few more months to reach its full adult size in comparison to a miniature. However, Standard Groodles take even longer because of their large statures, usually taking around a year. But this is just an average, and some dogs can take two years to become fully grown.

It’s estimated that a large size dog that weighs between 22-45 kilograms will be fully grown when they reach 18 months of age.

What Is the Ideal Weight For a Groodle?

The ideal weight for your Groodle will depend on which size you have.

  • Miniature Groodles should aim for around 13 kg when fully grown
  • Medium Groodles should have an ideal weight of roughly 13-20 kg
  • Standard Groodles can get very big, and it’s not uncommon for them to reach a weight of 45 kg. An ideal weight for a Standard Groodle is anywhere from 20 – 45 kg.

How to Make Sure a Groodle Isn’t Overweight

Just like humans, dogs can develop excess body fat, eventually becoming obese. This can lead to some serious health issues, such as degenerative joint disease and diabetes. Here are some tips to ensure your dog isn’t overweight.

  1. Give them regular exercise

To give your pet a happy, healthy life, you’ll need to provide a balanced diet and plenty of exercise. Thankfully, the Groodle is a relatively high-energy breed and thrives off of being active, and most are more than willing to join you outdoors for any occasion.

  1. Watch the treats!

Although it can be very tempting to spoil your dog with leftover food, always think twice about how it will affect its weight in later life. If your dog begs, respond with praise and cuddles rather than food. Ensure you don’t overuse snacks, but one or two small ones a day won’t hurt.

Ensuring Your Groodle Grows Properly

To grow properly, Groodle puppies need a well-balanced diet consisting of all food groups – protein, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. The amount of food matters too.

Young puppies will need quite a lot of food to support their growing bodies. Once your dog gets older, you can reduce this. Always speak to your vet if you’re unsure what and how much to feed your Groodle.

FAQs

How big is a medium-sized Groodle?

The most popular size, the Medium Groodle, tends to reach a height of 50 centimetres. This makes them ideal for most households.

Are Groodles too big to live in apartments?

This depends on which size group you have. A Standard size Groodle is a big dog and would not be suitable for apartment living. However, a Mini Groodle is much smaller and adapts well to living in an apartment.

Does Groodles put on weight easily?

Groodles may put on weight easily since both parent breeds have a propensity to gain weight. The Golden Retriever tends to put on more than the Poodle parent, so it depends on the generation of your pup that determines which parent breed they’re most like.

Final Thoughts on Groodle Size & Weight

Hopefully, this guide has given you a good idea of how big your Groodle will grow! If you’re about to become the proud owners of a Groodle, providing the correct diet and daily walks can help ensure your pup grows up big and strong.
