What is the history & origin of the Goberian?

The Goberian is one of many new crossbreeds to come out over the last few years. However, the exact origin or breeder is not known.

In fact, very little at all is known about this marvellous, if slightly mysterious breed!

Who are Goberian dogs best for?

The Golden Retriever and Siberian Husky crossbreed is an excellent option for families. Expect them to be curious and keen to help out with the general business of the day. Anything that their owners are doing, the Goberian will want to know all about it!

The breed absolutely loves kids! They are the perfect playmate for children who know how to interact with a dog. With young children, however, the breed can get frustrated if the kids decide to play a little bit too rough.

For this reason, there should always be adult supervision as well as proper education given to children as to how to behave around dogs and other animals.

The Husky Golden Retriever mix can be a great addition to many types of homes, but they would prefer somewhere with space outdoors to roam freely. They also don't like being left at home alone for hours on end as they much prefer their humans to be around to give them lots of attention!

This can be fixed with socialisation and early training, but potential owners should be able to spend a sizable portion of the day with the large-sized breed.

This active breed loves to exercise, so any family wishing to adopt one should also enjoy being active, or at least be keen to get outdoors more. This high-energy dog needs lots of walks and access to the dog park. They also love tramping!

How much grooming does a Goberian need?

The Goberian has a thick coat that can be wavy or straight, yet they don't shed too much, so they require little maintenance. A simple brush several times a week through their double coat should do the trick with your dog most likely looking forward to the pamper! It also creates a great bonding experience between parents and fur baby!

What they might not look forward to so much is bath time, which, mercifully, is only required when they get dirty.

Their nails should be clipped when needed, although lots of exercise will naturally keep the nails of this active dog trimmed. Aim to brush the dog's teeth at least twice a week, ideally three. This will help keep them healthy and allow you to see if they have any dental issues early on before anything starts to turn problematic.

Do Goberian bark much?

The Goberian will not usually bark without reason. As good guard dogs, they will vocalise to let their owners know that they think something is wrong, but in general, they are quiet dogs.

However, as an active breed, they can be vocal if they don't have enough exercise or mental stimulation.

Do Goberian bite?

This family-orientated dog is not prone to biting and gets on well with many different types of people, and is even very tolerant of other animals.

However, any dog, no matter how well-bred, well socialised, and well-trained, can bite if scared, put under undue stress, has health concerns or has been abused in the past.

Any dog that attempts to snap or begins to exhibit signs of aggression should be seen by a vet to discuss possible medical treatment (if an illness is to blame) or specialist behaviour training.

What is the temperament & personality of a Goberian?

Goberians are driven, smart, extremely sociable, and love being around people. They are gentle creatures who will be loyal to their owners and very affectionate. They tend to latch onto their main care provider, who they will declare as their favourite, but they will love everyone else too!

The large breed makes a great watchdog as well, alerting you to any activity they believe is untoward, so they certainly make a great deterrent for trespassers!

What is the weight & size of a Goberian?

The large-sized dog can weigh 20-41 kg and become as tall as 60 cm.

How much training does a Goberian need?

Golden Retriever Siberian Husky mixes are relatively straightforward to train. They need a firm but encouraging approach and never respond well to the harshness of tellings off. Any form of negative training will not work and can be extremely detrimental to any dog.

Harsh correction methods are not only unpleasant for the dog, but they can build a foundation of anxiety, so positive reinforcement and plenty of encouragement should be pursued when training.

Positive training always works best as it will allow your mixed-breed dog to flourish while gaining confidence. They respond well to lots of praise and cuddles as well as rewards - this can be in the form of a few treats or some playtime with their favourite toys and humans, of course!

Because Goberians are smart, they can learn quickly, but depending on which of the parents they take after, training difficulty will vary. If they have taken after the Siberian Husky parent, they won't be just as straightforward to train as if they take after the purebred Golden Retriever parent.

Sadly, you won't be able to tell which parent they take after until you commence training, but it should soon become apparent then!

What are some of the most common health issues for a Goberian?

Like many other dog breeds, the Golden Retriever Husky mix can be predisposed to developing health problems that affect the parent breeds too.

It's very important to keep in mind that there is absolutely no guarantee that any given Goberian will inherit any of these conditions, but it's good to look out for any potential changes in their health and/or temperament, which could allude to illness.

The main illnesses that the breed can suffer from include:

• Epilepsy

• Heart problems

• Cancer

• Bloat

• Dysplasia

What is the lifespan of a Goberian?

A healthy Golden Retriever Husky mix can be expected to live between 10 and 15 years of age.

How much should you feed a Goberian?

To keep any dog fit and healthy, they need the highest quality of dog food that you can afford. Cheaper foods often contain a lot of additives and ingredients to bulk out the product, which can potentially be unhealthy.

When choosing a brand, look for products that are specifically targeted toward the dog breed in question, ideally, or you can speak to your vet for expert advice.

As a medium-sized dog, the Golden Retriever Husky mix will need approximately 3 cups of dry food/kibble each day which ideally should be divided into two separate meals morning and evening. Make sure you know exactly how much to give your dog, the amount of which will depend on the activity level of the dog and its age.

What is the price of a Goberian in Australia?

Prices for Goberian puppies will vary depending on the breeder in question, but a ballpark figure of $2500 is often the average for a Goberian puppy. If, however, you don't have that type of money to spend, check out animal shelters in person or online, and you might get lucky!

As mixed breed dogs, the Goberian is not recognised by any Kennel Clubs across the world as of yet, so they don't come with pedigree papers. This should not stop you from asking a breeder for a health guarantee, and always be wary of a breeder unwilling to provide such documentation.
