Providing your dog with the right diet can be tricky for first-time dog owners. Even the most experienced owners should familiarise themselves with the diet requirements of this unique mix.

Lucky for you, everything you need to know about the Chusky diet – from daily routines down to the best dog food brand – is below.

How Much Should I Feed My Chusky Each Day?

With a Chow Chow and Siberian Husky parent, both high-energy dogs, the Chusky, a large dog, should have a diet that satisfies them and boosts their health.

The amount of food you give your dog daily depends on several factors, like their metabolism, food quality, weight and age, daily exercise, and whether you want to have your Chusky maintain, lose, or gain weight.

Puppies

Chusky puppies require a nutritionally complete diet provided in smaller and more frequent meals. They can eat both dry and wet food, but they can be picky when it comes to which they enjoy, so you can test both and see which your pup prefers. We’d recommend feeding them 100 grams three times a day.

Adults

Don’t let the size of your adult Chusky fool you. This designer breed should not be overfed as they have a tendency to become overweight. Their food portion will differ depending on the weight of your dog. On average, medium to large dogs should consume 1000 – 1500 calories a day. Two 500-gram servings a day should do.

Seniors

When your Chusky starts reaching a senior age, you’d think you’d need to switch to senior dog food. But that’s not always the case. Your senior Chusky may just need a more nutritious dog food made from natural and highly digestible ingredients.

Pregnant

When a dog is pregnant, her diet requirements are essentially the same as a young adult dog’s. That said, a well-balanced and nutritionally packed diet is all that is required for the expectant mom.

Raw, Fresh, or Commercial Food: Which is Best for My Dog’s Diet?

The best food for your Husky Chow dogs should meet their nutritional needs. While commercial dog food is less expensive and lasts longer, switching your canine companion to fresh or raw food is healthier and more nutritional.

Experienced dog owners often introduce raw food into their dog’s diet. Raw and fresh food is nutritionally rich and one of the best options for Chusky feeding, keeping them at a healthy weight while promoting better digestion and a bolstered immune system.

FAQs

Can I give my Chusky treats?

Yes, Chuskys love it when you dole out treats. Certain treats can have incredible benefits for your pooch, but avoid over-using them.

What should Chuskys not eat?

Foods like chocolate, garlic, onions, grapes, dairy, macadamia nuts, spoiled food, and even bacon should never enter your pooch’s diet.

Are Chuskys fussy eaters?

Chow Chows are notoriously fussy eaters, but luckily, the Siberian Husky genes temper this in the Chusky. If your Chusky is a fussy eater, it usually indicates a sensitive stomach, and you may need to consider altering their diet.

How much water do Chuskys need?

If your Chusky has an active lifestyle and their main diet is dry food, they’ll drink more water. How much water they drink depends on their weight, but typically, it’s around 1L daily.

Final Thoughts on feeding a Chusky

Picking the right chow for this designer dog breed can offer many benefits and make your Chusky feel, look, and smell better! Unlike purebred dogs that have specific food tailored to them, a mixed breed dog sometimes requires a little trial and error with food until you’ve found the diet that suits them best.
