How Much Should I Feed My Cane Corso Each Day?

The amount that you need to feed your Corso is heavily dependent on the stage of life they’re in.

Puppies

Puppies require a high-calorie diet to ensure they’re growing and developing properly and have enough energy to sustain them. Here’s how much food Corso Cane puppies should be eating daily:

  • 1 – 3 months – 1 to 2.75 cups
  • 4 – 5 months – 3 to 3.75 cups
  • 6 – 8 months – 3.75 to 5.59 cups
  • 9 – 11 months – 4 to 6 cups
  • One year to 2 years old – 6.5 to 9 cups.

Make sure to split the cups into several small meals per day for these large breed puppies, up to the age of 6 months.

Adults

The American Veterinary Medical Association recommends feeding about 4.5 cups of dry food for a Cane Corso of about 50 kilos. You add an extra quarter cup for every 5 kilograms that your dog weighs over this.

Seniors

A senior Cane Corso should therefore be fed about 2.5 to 3 cups of dog food per day, depending on their weight, and their food should also be adjusted from solely dry food to more soft wet food due to their weaker teeth.

Pregnant

You should increase your pregnant Cane Corso’s food by about 15 to 25% per day. Make sure to consult with your vet, however, as depending on the number of puppies, your bitch might require more or less food.

Raw, Fresh, or Commercial Food: Which is Best for My Dog’s Diet?

Dry food in the form of kibble will be good in aiding your dog’s dental health, while a fresh and raw food diet will be way more nutrient-dense but also much more expensive. A healthy mix of everything is probably the best way to go, and you shouldn’t shy away from prepping some raw or fresh food for your dog at home.

FAQs

Can I give my Cane Corso treats?

Yes, you definitely can! Just make sure you feed your Cane Corso with natural food treats free of added preservatives or sugar.

What should a Cane Corso not eat?

Similar to other dog breeds, your Cane Corso should not eat any sugar, cheese, chocolate, avocado, raisins, grapes and no added preservatives.

Are Cane Corso fussy eaters?

Yes, Cane Corsos are somewhat fussy eaters and might get bored of the same type of dog food. Not all dog foods will therefore work for the Cane Corso, and you should try to switch up raw feeding and dry food now and then.

How much water do Cane Corsos need?

Like most large breeds, your Cane Corso will drink a lot; in fact, an adult Cane Corso will drink about 2 to 2.5 litres of water every day.

Final Thoughts on feeding a Cane Corso

Feeding a Cane Corso will not come cheap; this large breed dog will chow down massive amounts of dog food in its life, so you should make sure to buy in bulk!
