A dog’s diet requires owners to be attentive. There are specific changes that need to be made from puppyhood into its senior years. Their eating needs and quantities change, and knowing what to feed them and how much is essential!
Today, we’re going to give you the keys to raising a healthy Bull Terrier pup.
The amount of food you feed your Bull Terrier should depend on their age, weight, activity level, and metabolism.
Their food should be high quality and nutritional. You can introduce Bull Terrier puppies to some fresh meats and foods rich in calcium.
Puppies can be fed up to four times per day until six months old. You can then start giving them three feedings per day, then two after eight months old.
At around eight weeks, your pup should eat 3/4 cup of dry food mixed with a spoonful of wet food. When they reach a year or about 14 months, you can move them onto adult food and feed them twice daily.
Never mix homemade and commercial dog food. Whatever you decide to feed them, the daily portion should reach 600 grams.
Adult bull terriers should be fed around two cups of dry food twice a day, as they are very active dogs. Between 1 5/8 to 4 1/4 cups daily is recommended. Adult dogs should eat about 2-3% of their weight daily.
When they are seniors, Bull Terriers are not as active or energetic as they once were. It is best to move to light feed so they do not gain too much weight.
Feed them one cup per every 9kg of their overall body weight and split their food across the day, feeding them in the mornings and evenings.
You can pregnant Bull Terriers on their regular diet during their first two trimesters. After that, they should be eating almost three times as much.
During the third trimester, a highly digestible, high-quality puppy/growth/development formulation is typically advised. Several small meals may allow the mother to maintain an acceptable calorie and nutrient intake.
Dry dog foods are best for Bull Terriers since they have lower sugar content, and Bull Terriers are prone to obesity and weight gain.
While many dog lovers boast about the benefits of raw food diets, they have little research to back them up, so it is best to go with commercial foods that are vet-approved. Avoid processed dog food where possible!
Yes, you can, but do not feed them too many as they can gain weight easily.
Do not feed them chocolate, onions, grapes, nuts, and foods with high sugar.
They can be, especially with taste and textures.
They should drink about 20-70ml/kg per day.
It is crucial to know what you are feeding your Bull Terrier at each stage of its life. Ensure they get enough proteins, nutrients, and minerals from their food to have a healthy diet and be happy!
