Bull Arab Main Personality Traits

Bull Arabs are lovely dogs to have as pets, and understanding their personality and temperament will help you ease them into your home smoothly. Remember that while these are common personality traits of a Bull Arab, your dog will be unique and has to be treated as such.

Loyal

In the Bull Arab breed history, it is clear that this large breed is loyal. Their instincts to hunt and guard make them the ultimate partner to their family members, especially if they are used as working dogs. They are excellent guard dogs and were originally bred to hunt feral pigs, so they are also known as the Australian pig dog.

Their hunting instincts have also been used in search and rescue missions. With this, your family can sleep soundly at night, knowing that you have your trusted pooch guarding you and your property.

Independent

Some owners prefer cuddle buddies who will jump at the chance to snuggle up on lazy days. On the other hand, and especially for owners who live busy lives, independence is precisely what they want.

Independent also means that they need constant mental stimulation. If not catered to, this dog breed can exhibit destructive behaviour, which is not an ideal situation to be in.

Calm

Again, some pet owners want upbeat and high-energy dogs who will be ready to run around all day. This is not necessarily the case for the Bull Arab. Instead, they are calm and would much rather be the patrolling guard dog on duty!

Bull Arabs and Your Family

They may seem like very serious dogs, which they are the most of, but they make brilliant companion dogs for any family! Give them enough backyard space and a comfortable bed, and they will have no problem fitting right in.

Developed from multiple breeds like the German Shorthaired Pointer, the English Bull Terrier and the Greyhound, and later the Bloodhound and English Pointer, it is safe to say that they have inherited only the best qualities from their parent breeds.

A versatile breed as much as this is loyal, calm and independent, which makes them one of the best hunting breeds. They are also active dogs who make great playmates for kids!

Can Bull Arabs Live With Other Dogs?

The Bull Arab dog does not do well with other dog breeds in their space, especially smaller dogs. They can get quite aggressive and should be socialised early to lose their aggressiveness toward other dogs.

Can Bull Arabs Live With Other Pets?

The Bull Arab requires socialisation to teach them how to appropriately interact with animals different to them, especially those who are smaller.

Can Bull Arabs Live With Kids?

The Bull Arab is a suitable breed to be around kids. Your kids and dog must be taught how to interact appropriately, as this will make play safe and fun. Younger kids could get easily hurt by these large dog breeds and should always be supervised when playing together to avoid accidents.

Do Bull Arabs Have Any Behavioural Issues?

The Aussie pig dog is a hunting dog that comes with aggressive tendencies. Their intelligence and independent nature can cause destructive behaviour if bored, and they will take it out mostly on the furniture around them.

These dogs need to be exercised daily to get rid of their pent-up energy, given lifelong obedience training and socialisation and be housebroken to teach them right from wrong.

FAQs

Can a Bull Arab be left alone?

While Bull Arabs are independent by nature, they dislike being left alone or separated from their family members for long periods. This can cause stress, and being an aggressive dog will not end well.

Do Bull Arabs bark a lot?

Thankfully, these large dogs don’t bark a lot. They are considered to be moderate barkers that only bark if necessary. This will be mainly when they sense danger, feel threatened or are met by strangers, and when they see the squirrel hurrying up the tree close by!

Are Bull Arabs active dogs?

As hunting dogs, they are exceptionally active dogs. They have strength, speed and endurance. This means that they need to exercise daily and make sure that it piques their interest because they are independent and intelligent!

Final Thoughts on Bull Arab Temperament & Personality

The Bull Arab is one of those dog breeds that are not for the faint-hearted. They need an assertive owner who will establish themselves as their leader. Every dog acts how they are treated, so train your Bull Arab well, teach them love and goodness, and they will exhibit the same.
