Responsible and registered Cocker Spaniel dog breeders require breeder Registration Numbers (BRNs) and Breeder Identification Numbers (BINs). When pets are registered with the NSW Pet Registry, they are given a unique identification number.
They should include the BRN in their ads to sell their breeding stock. Dog breeders with BRN numbers are often members of associations and small kennel clubs, such as the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC).
If you want a happy and healthy dog, you must insist on a health certificate. Recent frauds have shown how so many online-purchased dogs quickly perish. The breeder must be willing and able to give you health certifications for the puppy and its parents.
These certificates must include notarized documents of the vaccinations for pups and their parents and any pertinent genetic information and health assurance. Good dog breeders will provide a signed health guarantee and give you the right to return the puppy to the breeder if a health problem arises within the guarantee period.
